“There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from His.” Hebrews 4:9-10
Happy Sabbath Lighthouse Family! Thank GOD it’s Friday!
Isn’t is such a relief to know that God, the maker of the Heavens and the Earth, the creator of all living things, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, took a REST from all the amazing work He had done? And not only did he take a rest for Himself, He set aside a whole day for the loved ones He created to also take a day off from all the work we do and spend it together with Him!
Fridays have always been my favorite day of the week. Not just because it’s the beginning of the weekend or the last day of the work week, but because I knew that on Friday, the wind down would begin. Friday nights have always been a special time for my family. The beginning of Sabbath felt like a time where the weight of the world around me was lifted off my shoulders, a time where I knew I’d spend the next day just connecting with my family and people I love so much. No breaking news, no sports games, no work calls or emails, just family time. Just worship. Just rest from the struggles of life. And peace. This is something that I have always, and will always, cherish about our Sabbath day.
Throughout my life, I have come across many people, friends, co-workers, bosses, who have asked me “you mean…you can’t do ANYTHING on Saturdays?!” This is a question that has always astounded me. Why would anyone complain about having a day that is set aside for us to just stop and take a break from the hustle and bustle of our every day lives? Who in their right mind actually enjoys the chaos of our daily routines enough to want to do it seven days a week?! And then it hit me…these people don’t know what it’s like to rest and just spend time with their Creator.
We are so accustomed to the non-stop lifestyles that we have created that even the thought of stopping for one second is absurd to so many people. But what they don’t understand is that God himself set this day apart for us to enjoy all the things that He has blessed us with. A day to just connect with Him and take some genuine R&R (Rest and Reassurance) with our Maker. God offers us the kind of peace, relaxation, rest and reassurance, that no amount of essential oils, acupressure, spa days, massages or yoga can give you, and the best part about that is, it’s completely FREE. Our day of rest is the perfect time to come to God with all of our chaos, our burdens, our fears, and our exhaustion and find rest in Him.
Today, I wanted to share a few verses that serve as reminders of all the good things that God has to offer us, not only on Sabbath, but every day, when we choose to come to Him and lay it all down at His feet.
Peace- “The peace I give is a gift the world cannot give so don’t be troubled or afraid” John 14:27
Protection- “My God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.” 2 Samuel 22:3
Healing- “The pain that you’ve been feeling cannot compare to the joy that is coming” Romans 8:1
Rest- “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint” Jeremiah 31:25
Reassurance- “With His love, He will calm all your fears” Zephaniah 3:17
I invite you all to just let it all go this week. I hope that you all find the R&R you need and deserve during our day of rest!
Have a blessed Sabbath!
Amen
