Today's crucial Devotional, submitted by Janette Harnett, is a lesson we will always need MORE OF, not less.💯 May this beautiful lesson permeate our hearts and change them from the insides out! ♥️ Thank you, Janette, for letting the Spirit nudge you on the direction you should go! 🕊
My Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Today I had the desire to speak on the very sensitive topic of “Forgiveness” mainly because I used to struggle a lot with it and I cannot say that I have fully overcome but I have gotten a lot better with the help of God. You see, it is something that has become a part of our daily routine and needs constant prayer.
The word “forgive" means to give away. It has little to do with the other person; It’s a decision you make, like exhaling carbon dioxide from your body. You know holding on it will only harm you. So go ahead exhale, release and forgive.
We have all been in situations where we have done wrong and desire forgiveness—from a spouse, family member, friend, or even a co-worker. Sometimes the person we most need forgiveness from is ourselves. And then there are the times when someone is asking us for forgiveness, and we have to look deeply in ourselves to offer it. No strings attached, it's hard! Whether you are giving or receiving forgiveness, it's a very powerful thing. Forgiveness does not excuse the persons’ behaviour. Forgiveness prevents their behavior from destroying your heart.
Love can go hand in hand with forgiveness. After all, to forgive is to show love, and love is the most important thing we can give to our friends, family, neighbors, and even strangers. You may be in need of forgiveness right now, or if you need some motivation to forgive someone in your life, perhaps someone has taken advantage of you or lied to you. You may have been told to “get over it” or “move on.” Believe me, I have been there and it is easier said than done.
Sometimes you think you have gotten over it but it later comes to haunt you. Pride will make us think that we are so right in our actions. Without forgiveness we end up giving control of our life over to the person or thing that caused the pain. Now you see this is when you can have a closer walk with the Lord and ask the Savior to comfort, strengthen and heal you.
Matthew 6:14 tells us “For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.”
Let us take a close look at the exemplary prayer that Jesus gave to us.
A Guide to Praying to Our Father:
INVOCATION Our Father in heaven,
PETITION Hallowed be your name
PETITION Your kingdom come
PETITION Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven
PETITION Give us today our daily bread
PETITION Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us
PETITION Save us from the time of trial and temptation
PETITION And deliver us from evil
DOXOLOGY For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen
You will notice that the petition highlighted is asking for us to do something in order to get something. This requires a little more effort than all the other petitions. Jesus himself did nothing wrong but had to forgive. This is a part of our daily routine.
Luke 23:34:
"Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do."
Ephesians 4:32:
"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."
Let us join with the Psalmist and say: “Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
